Spain's new shirt for Confederations Cup (05/12/2020)
Spain have qualified twice over for FIFA’s Confederations Cup, once as winners of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and once as European champions! The competition will take place in next June in Brazil, a trial run for the World Cup the following year.
Eight teams will be taking part, Brazil (hosts), Spain (World champions), Italy (European runners up), Uruguay (South American champions), Mexico (Central and North American champions), Japan (Asina champions), Tahiti (Oceania champions), and whoever wins the African championship which will be taking place at the start of next year.
Teams have been drawn in to two groups of four, with the top two of each group going through to the semi-finals. Spain are in group B together with Uruguay, the African champions, and Tahiti, who were the big surprise after they won their regional tournament. The Polynesians are ranked number 139 in the World, and their squad includes four brothers from the Theau family.
Most people are hoping for a Brazil v Spain final, although nothing is certain. Four years ago in South Africa the two teams were also favourites, but Vicente Del Bosque’s side lost their semi-final to USA!
Spain have brought out a new shirt to commemorate the occasion, which is now available from our shop.
